Fewer trucks on the road with opening of fully automated filling line at Van Moer Logistics
Yesterday afternoon, Van Moer Logistics celebrated the opening of its new filling lines for toxic and non-toxic liquids. The service provider invested 14.5 million euros in the expansion of its 27-hectare logistics hub in Antwerp. With this, the company offers 'The Perfect Flow' for its customers, a unique set-up within Europe where the transport, stocking, heating, filling, cleaning and repair of tank containers is managed by one service provider at one location. Thanks to this set-up, the company takes trucks off the road and saves shippers up to 60% in transport costs
ANCHORING CHEMISTRY AND LIFE SCIENCES
On the Van Moer Logistics site at Antwerp, construction work started in August 2022 on a new filling complex with ongoing BREEAM certification. With this, Van Moer Logistics is taking a major step forward in anchoring chemistry and life sciences within the port of Antwerp. In the presence of customers, partners and port alderman Annick De Ridder, the facility was festively opened yesterday afternoon.
The new fully automatic lines are designed for filling a wide range of both toxic and non-toxic liquids. From tank containers, the substances are packed into drums or IBCs. Thanks to integrated gas filters, the logistics provider can now also fill highly odorous or foaming products in its new filling complex.
CAPACITY EXPANSION
Together, the three filling lines can handle up to 200 drums per hour with the possibility of expanding to five filling lines. Adjacent to the filling complex, an additional ADR warehouse of 6,000 m2 was built, bringing the total storage capacity at the Antwerp site to 76,000 m2.
A large part of that capacity is allocated, among others, to chemical giant INEOS. In this way, it opts for efficient filling of chemical tank transports. Packed products are also centralised in the ADR warehouses, where previously they were scattered over several warehouses. Thanks to this working method, the company gets a lot of trucks off the road every year. After all, Van Moer Logistics' new filling installation is right next to INEOS Oxide's production site.
EUROPEAN FIRST
The new investment amounts to 14.5 million euros, with which Van Moer Logistics further expands its service package for the chemical industry. Jo Van Moer, Founder & CEO at Van Moer Logistics "In Antwerp, we offer a complete one-stop shop for our customers. From transporting, stocking, heating, filling and cleaning to repairing tank containers, we provide everything at one 27-hectare site in the middle of the Antwerp chemical cluster. We call this set-up 'The Perfect Flow', which makes us unique in the European market."
60% REDUCTION IN COSTS
As all activities are managed at one location with one service provider, the shipper saves on average 60% in transport costs and the administrative burden also decreases. Thanks to less transports, there is also a social gain thanks to reduced CO2 emissions and decreasing traffic congestion.
